Елгава – жемчужина Земгалии

On the 11th of November 1918, the First World war ended. On the 18th of November of the same year, a new state The Republic of Latvia with a lot to prove to the world was established.

The only newspaper in Jelgava “Homeland’s News” invited citizens to support the new government of Latvia, because the new state had more enemies that used their land at one time or another.

The destruction from the First World war, battles with the red army, proletariat dictatorship, and fights against Pavel Bermondt-Avalov’s military – left a heavy legacy for the city and its citizens to create a new vision of Jelgava in independent Latvia.

After getting over hardships, Jelgava became the center of the area, it slowly redeveloped its lost industries. At the turn of the 20th century, Latvia regains its industrial and cultural influence in Latvia.
