The first of the four event cycles “Academia Petrina 250”

On February 18th at 12:00, the first of the four events in the “Academia Petrina 250” series will take place at the Jelgava Museum. The event will focus on the beginning of the university’s foundation, its first students, and the first teaching staff. Of course, there will also be a discussion about the artifacts—relics from the Academia Petrina period—that are part of the museum’s collection. Additionally, there will be souvenirs available, featuring symbols of the 250th anniversary of the Academy of Peter.

The second event in the series will be the exhibition “Academia Petrina – The Cradle of Higher Education in Latvia”, which will open on May 16th.

On July 3rd, a conference titled “Academia Petrina (1775–1801) in University Status” will be held. Leading researchers of the period will participate, and several museum specialists are preparing papers for the event. This conference will build on the discussions from the first event.

We also hope to publish a collection of articles titled “Academia Petrina 250” by December 12th, dedicated to the 210th anniversary of the founding of the Kurzeme Literature and Art Society.
