Exhibition Maija Eliase (1924–1991)

From January 10th to February 16th, the Jelgava Museum will host the 100th anniversary memorial exhibition of the painter Maija Eliasa (1924–1991). The artist represents the famous Elias family in Latvian culture. Her father was the erudite art historian, historian, and one of the first four deputies of the Latvian Parliament (Saeima), Kristaps Eliass (1886–1963). Her uncle was the outstanding painter Ģederts Eliass (1887–1975), who was Maija’s professor and the supervisor of her diploma work at the Art Academy. Maija’s aunt, Maija Cielēna (née Eliase, 1889–1988), was also a notable art historian.
