From February 20 to April 26, Ieva Jurka’s porcelain exhibition “Alter-Porcelain” will be on view at the Ģ. Elias Jelgava History and Art Museum. A meeting with the artist will take place on February 20 at 5:00 PM at the museum.
The title “Alter-Porcelain” (from Latin alter, meaning “different” or “change”) reflects the visual character of the works — a “different” approach to porcelain. Most of the exhibited pieces are wheel-thrown, in contrast to the traditional method of casting porcelain in plaster molds, giving each piece a unique character. The main objects include cups, plates, bowls, and vases — all examples of the artist’s applied art. The works on display are created in porcelain and showcase a variety of decorative styles.
